Brown set us up with classes, books, dorm rooms, and funds to purchase winter clothes. It was in an introductorybiology course that my path began to shift. I was fascinated by the professor’slecture and reached out after class. Surprisingly, he immediately offered me aresearch position in his lab to work on a project modeling how climate changecould influence the distributions of plants. The research opened my eyes to theimportant work scientists were doing.

I began to see a path in science beyondmedicine and think a Ph.D. was what I wanted. Yet, despite the excitement, Ifelt doubtful, anxious, and guilty. I struggled to reconcile (调和) my newopportunities with the destruction back home. I also worried about leavingbehind my dream of medicine to pursue a path that I was excited about but thatmight not lead to a job in Puerto Rico.

After I shared with my mentor (导师) my conflictedfeelings on the future, he replied: “There’s nothing better than doing whatexcites you.” The words felt like permission to follow my passion.

For decades, computer science studentshave been taught a central skill: using computers to solve problems. Inpractice, that has meant programming or writing code to tell a machine how toperform tasks.

Now, generative artificial intelligencetools like ChatGPT can write those programs themselves, producing code in muchthe same way they write essays. A student can ask ChatGPT to write a programthat sorts a list of numbers and get a working answer in seconds. This newcapability is transforming how computer scientists get work done. Evennon-programmers suddenly have the ability to create their own software tools.

This may feel like a threat to somecoders’ profession. It certainly marks a significant shift for computerscientists and those who educate them. The future of computer science educationis to teach students how to master the skill of supervision (监管). Why? Becausethe speed and efficiency of using AI to write code is balanced by the realitythat it often gets things wrong. These tools are designed to produce resultsthat look convincing, but they may still contain errors. There is still a needfor humans to play a role in coding—a supervisory one, in which programmersoversee the use of AI tools, determine if AI-generated code does what it issupposed to do and make repairs to faulty code.

But today’s computer science educationstill focuses on coding as the primary activity. And worryingly, some studentsare using AI tools to finish their assignments without learning orunderstanding how the code actually works. Most education doesn’t yet emphasizethe skills critical for programming supervision. New developers with less thana year’s experience can actually be less efficient with AI tools than without, because they are missing critical skills and knowledge needed to evaluate andcorrect what the AI produces.

The rise of generative AI shouldsharpen our focus on what truly matters in computer science education: helpingstudents develop the habits of mind that let them question, reason and applyjudgment in a rapidly developing field. As the AI pioneer Herbert Simon onceadvised: “Learning results from what the student does and thinks, and only fromwhat the student does and thinks.”

28.What can generative AI tools do in programming?
A. Teach students how to code.B.Produce code without errors.
C. Write programs following instructions.D. Take the place of experienced coders.
29.Theauthor thinks computer science education should primarily develop students’ abilityof ______.
A. supervising and correcting AI-generated code
B. programming or writing code to perform tasks
C. coding or decoding speedily and efficiently
D. understanding and using AI tools independently
30.Howdoes the author support his argument in paragraph 4?
A. By providing statistics.B.By presenting facts.
C. By clarifying a concept.D.By making a prediction.
31.Whatis the author's purpose in writing this text?
A. To criticize the traditional teaching approaches.
B. To urge a change in computer science education.
C. To emphasize the importance of efficient learning.
D. To show AI tools cannot replace human teachers.

When seeking mental health support, youare often told you shouldn’t try to change-you are perfectly imperfect.Personality has traditionally been defined as a pretty stable collection ofcharacteristics. Indeed, you might believe you are controlled by the genetichand when it comes to things like how agreeable you are. These ideas arenonsense.

There is plenty of evidence that ourpersonalities are more fluid (易变的) than we think, stimulating fascination with the craft ofpersonality change to improve our lives. For example, a 2024 study found thatthree months of digital coaching reliably increased characterstics likeemotional stability and diligence.

Other characteristics provide furthersupport for the fluidity of personality. Most people will label themselvespurely as extroverts (外向) or introverts (内向). But Carl Jung, who coined theseterms, said that there is no such thing as a “pure” introvert or extrovert. Some of us may be more likely to enjoy the role of chief party entertainer, while others tend to prefer quietly adapting to their surroundings, but thesepreferences are flexible. Who you are on a cold winter Wednesday is likely tobe different from who you are on a sunny Saturday.

Whatever your tendencies, gettingenough social connection is crucial for your well-being. Displaying extrovertedcharacteristics is linked with being better able to bear the physical effectsof stress. The Harvard Study of Adult Development, an 80-year project trackingthe lives of about 700 men in order to understand the core components of ahappy and healthy life, found that nothing matters more tothat endthan lively social relationships.

Even if you file yourself as a pureintrovert, embracing a more social attitude may be easier than you think. It isthe strength of someone’s identity as an introvert, more than how highly theyscore on characteristics of introversion, that makes them uncomfortable whenreminded to act more outgoing. This indicates that a looser hold of self-imagecan help to drive conscious change.

Challenging the idea of rigidpersonality types could make us all happier. But first, you might need toaccept a painful truth: maybe trying to change isn’t such a bad idea.

32.What is a common misunderstanding ofpersonality?
A. It is fixed and stable.B. It can bechanged easily.
C. It is determined byone's life.D. It hasnothing to do with genes.
33.Why does the author mention the 2024 study andCarl Jung's view?
A. To give examples ofpersonality change craft.
B. To express a preferencefor certain personalities.
C. To offer evidencesupporting personality fluidity.
D. To criticize thetraditional definition of personality.
34. What do the underlined words “that end” inparagraph 4 refer to?
A. The conclusion of thestudy.B. A happy and healthy life.
C. The eighty-year project.D.A key tosocial connection.
35.Which of the following is the best title for thetext?
A. Time for a New YouB. Secretsof Happiness
C. Identifying PersonalityTypesD. AcceptingWho You Are

It’s normal to occasionally trip overyour words, but those with a stammer can struggle to always speak fluently. Astammer is when you repeat certain sounds, or when a word simply gets stuck, and you can't get it out.3670% of those with stammers feel they’re lesslikely to get hired, and 33% feel it affects their job performance. So how canwe support those around us with a stammer the next time we chat?

Don’t try to fill silences

We’re used to filling those awkwardsilences and pauses, often by speaking up ourselves, but sometimes, a littlesilence is OK! Sometimes, a stammer involves a silent block, or a pause isneeded before speaking. It’s key to show the person that you're comfortable, rather than impatiently trying to fill it yourself.37

Never interrupt when someone is trying to speak

It might seem helpful, after all, ifyou think you know what the person is trying to say, why not help them getthere faster?38One of the most annoying things for someonewho stammers is being rushed, interrupted, or having others finish theirsentences.

39

When we see someone struggling, it’snatural to try to offer comfort with our words. But this can actually worsenthe situation. The good news is you can provide comfort with your non-verbalgestures instead. For example, maintaining eye contact shows you're engaged andlistening to what the person is saying, not how they’re saying it.

40Take the first step bysimply giving them your time and attention. While you can't solve a stammer, kindness, patience, and understanding go a long way in helping them feelcomfortable and supported.

A. Offer non-verbal comfort

B. Find out more about stammering

C. Thiscan help to reduce the pressure.

D. For some people, this can have a bigimpact on their lives.

E. Supporting someone with a stammerdoesn't have to be complicated.

F. But interrupting someone canactually put more pressure on the situation.

G. Those with a stammer likely alreadyknow the strategies you may suggest.

Many years ago, I was sitting in mydear friend Sara's beautifully wallpapered living room. We were discussing mypainstaking effort to successfully hang wallpaper in several rooms at my house.

“I can’t get the seams (接缝) to match,” Isaid. “It’s not straight at the ceiling and it just isn’t nearly as pretty asyours. What am I doing wrong? How did you get yours to look so much better thanmine?”

Sara sat quietly listening to all myproblems. I noticed a small smile on her lips and wondered if she was, perhaps, laughing a bit at me. I wound down my complaining and gave her a chance torespond.

“Donna,” she comforted. “It’s all anillusion (错觉).The details don't matter. Look at my seams; they aren’t perfect either. Thereis a tear over in the corner, did you notice that?”

I slowly shook my head as I looked moreclosely at the previously unnoticed imperfections of her living room walls. Shecontinued, “You walk into my house and see the illusion of a beautiful room. You don’t notice all the imperfections. You did your wallpaper yourself so youknow every spot that isn’t exactly right. No one else will see the mistakes, just like you didn't see mine.” As I left her house that day, I knew that shewas right and looked less critically at my rooms upon arriving home.

Life went on and I almost forgot thediscussion. Time passed and one of my daughters decided to have her wedding inmy backyard. I had worked for many years to make my yard into a beautifulgarden, trying new types of plants. With the help of my husband and sons, wehad dug a small pond and planted new trees. It was a shelter where birds nestedand frogs rested. I had dreamed that one day one of my children would choose itfor a wedding. That day had come and I enthusiastically began planting paleyellow flowers to match my daughter’s chosen colors.

第四部分写作

第一节

Possible version 1:

Dear Moss,

How is everything going? I'm writing to share somethingexciting from my school. Our class recently launched a "Campus Vlog"activity to capture beautiful moments.

My vlog focuses on the school library. I filmed studentsstudying intently, the golden sunlight streaming through windows, and the quietturning of pages. I added soft background music and simple captions to create apeaceful and inspiring atmosphere.

Making this vlog was truly rewarding. It made me appreciate theoften-overlooked beauty in our daily school life and allowed me to develop myvideo editing skills. More importantly, it deepened my connection to ourschool. I hope you can create a vlog about your campus life too!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours,

Li Hua

第二节

Possible version 2:

Things were going wonderfully, and then a heavy rain struck.Itpoured relentlessly for hours. My heart sank as I watched from the window. Thenewly planted pale yellow flowers were battered and muddy. The pond overflowed, its clear water now murky. The carefully arranged seating area was a soggymess. All my dreams of a perfect garden wedding seemed to be washing away.Frustration and disappointment welled up inside me. I remembered my friendSara's words about the "illusion" of perfection. But this felt likemore than just a few hidden seams; it felt like a disaster.

The wedding day came as planned.Thesky was clear and bright. As the guests arrived, I held my breath, still seeingthe storm's aftermath in my mind. To my surprise, their reactions were not ofdisappointment but of delight. They admired the glistening, rain-washed leaves, the vibrant green of the grass, and the way the sun sparkled on the pond'ssettled surface. The resilient yellow flowers, though slightly battered, stoodproudly. My daughter, radiant in her dress, walked down the makeshift aisle, her joy lighting up the entire space. In that moment, I realized Sara wasprofoundly right. I had been focusing on the imperfections I knew so well, while everyone else saw only the beautiful, joyful illusion of a loving familycelebrating in a lively, natural garden. It was perfect precisely because itwas real.

Possible version:
Things were goingwonderfully, and then a heavy rain struck. It poured for hours, transforming the garden I had nurtured for years. Thepale yellow flowers were flattened into the mud. Paths became shallow streams, and the pond overflowed its edges. My heart sank. “All our hard work,” Iwhispered. My husband found me staring at the mess. “Remember Sara’swallpaper?” He said gently, placing a hand on my shoulder.” The guests arecoming for my daughter, not for a perfect garden.” His words pulled me backfrom despair. We worked together to clear the paths and rescue flowers. Thegarden bore the scars of the storm, yet it held a raw, honest beauty. (101)
The wedding day came asplanned. As the first guests arrived, I was expecting theirjudgment. But no one mentioned the muddy edges or the damaged flowers. Instead,I heard gasps of delight. When my daughter stepped into the garden, her facelit up with pure joy. Later, she hugged me and said, “It’s more beautiful thanI ever imagined, Mom. It feels real and alive, just like love.” At that moment,I truly understood: life, like a wallpapered room or a rain-touched garden, isbeautiful not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real and filled withmeaning. Things were goingwonderfully, and then a heavy rain struck.
The wedding day came asplanned.
