The Nanjing International Youth Culture Center is located by the riverside in Hexi New Town, the Nanjing New Central Business District (CBD). The project includes a conference center spanning 106,500 square meters, two towers with a combined floor area of 258,500 square meters, 100,000 square meters of underground space, and a plaza at the terminus of the CBD's main axis.

The master plan demonstrates the continuity and connectivity between the urban environment of Hexi New City, the riverside green spaces, and the rural landscape of the Jiangxinzhou Island, which is located on the Yangtze River and connected by pedestrian bridges.

The Nanjing International Youth Culture Center covers an area of 5.2 hectares and has a total construction area of 465,000 square meters. The taller of the two towers stands at 315 meters (68 floors), housing office spaces and a Jumeirah Hotel. The shorter tower is 255 meters (59 floors) tall and includes another four-star hotel. Both towers share a five-story multifunctional podium that accommodates the cultural center.

The four main projects of the cultural center - conference hall, auditorium, multifunctional hall, and reception area - are independent volumes centered around the central courtyard. The four elements merge into a whole on the upper level, and pedestrians can pass through an open landscape on the ground. The conference hall can accommodate 2100 people and is equipped with a multifunctional stage suitable for meetings, cultural and theatrical activities. The auditorium can accommodate 500 people and can be used for orchestral performances, as well as audio equipment for performances.

The tower creates a dynamic transition from the vertical CBD of the city to the horizontal terrain of the river. The higher tower symbolizes the position of the square in the urban grid of Hexi New City and the Nanjing skyline. The natural landscape of the river is connected to the urban street landscape of the new CBD through the smooth architectural language of the multifunctional podium and conference center. This architectural structure juxtaposes the vertical (city) and horizontal (river and landscape) together.

At the junction between the tower and the building, the glass curtain wall gradually transforms into a diamond shaped fiber reinforced concrete panel grid, and the large surfaces of the podium and conference center present a solid and sculptural appearance; Emphasizing the dynamic characteristics of form while providing sunlight for the interior of the building.

This project is the first in China to start from the street level and build both upwards and downwards simultaneously. Utilizing ZHA's professional knowledge and experience in 3D digital BIM (Building Information Modeling) design and construction management, the entire project cycle has been shortened to 34 months, with on-site construction taking only 18 months.

The Nanjing International Youth Cultural Center, covering an area of 465000 square meters, was first opened for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games. The Nanjing Jumeirah Hotel now occupies the tallest tower in the center. As one of the world's leading luxury hotel brands, Jumeirah Hotels recently built their Nanjing hotel, becoming the most important hotel destination in the city.
