In January 2007, an ordinary afternoon in New YorkCity turned into a life-or-death moment that would later be remembered acrossthe country. At a crowded subway station, a construction worker named WesleyAutrey stood waiting with his two young daughters, unaware that he would soonface a decision requiring both courage and clarity of mind. Nearby, 20-year-oldstudent Cameron Hollopeter suddenly lost control of his body and collapseddirectly onto the tracks from a heart attack. At the same time, a train wasalready approaching the station at considerable speed, leaving only secondsbefore impact.
Panic spread quickly along the platform. Somepassengers cried out in alarm, while others froze, unable to process what wasunfolding before them. The situation was chaotic, and no immediate solutionseemed possible.
Autrey, however, reacted almost instinctively. After instructing his daughters to remain where they were, he jumped down ontothe tracks. At first, he attempted to lift Hollopeter back onto the platform, but quickly realized that there was not enough time. Faced with an impossiblechoice, Autrey made a split-second decision. He pressed the unconscious man down into a shallow drainagespace between the rails and lay flat over him, using his own body as ashield. Moments later, the train thundered overhead, passing so close that itbarely touched Autrey's cap. When the train came to ahalt, an astonishing discovery awaited the onlookers: both men werealive. Against all odds, they had survived.
In the aftermath, Autrey consistently downplayedhis actions, insisting that he had simply done what anyone should do. Yetpublic reaction suggested otherwise. He was widely praised for his bravery andlater honored by city officials. What makes this incident remarkable is notmerely the dramatic rescue, but the nature of the decision behind it. In extreme situations, hesitation is often the default response. Autrey's action, by contrast, illustrates how instinct, shaped by responsibility and empathy, can override fear.

In recent years, a new trend has become common in branding: everyday products such as food, drinksand even tools are given human features, like smiling faces and simple arms andlegs. These products can now be seen in shops, advertisements and onlineplatforms. They are often bright in color and simple in form, which makes themeasy to notice and remember. This raises a question: why are such cartoon-likedesigns so popular?
One reason is their emotional appeal. In afast-paced and sometimes stressful world, people are naturally drawn to thingsthat are simple and enjoyable. Compared to more serious or formal designs, these playful images can make people feel relaxed. By giving human qualities toordinary objects, brands can create a friendly image and connect more easilywith consumers. In this way, products become more engaging and easier toremember, which may influence people's choices.
Another reason is the inheritance of earlierartistic styles. This kind of design can be tracedback to early animation, where characters were drawn with simple shapesand clear expressions. Today's designers combine these elements with moderntastes, creating images that feel both familiar and new. As a result, suchdesigns are accepted by people of different ages and are widely used indifferent industries, from food to fashion.
However, the wide use of this style has also causedproblems. With the help of digital tools, many businesses can produce similardesigns with little effort. In some cases, companies even rely on ready-madetemplates (模版) instead of original ideas. As a result, differentbrands may begin to look alike, making it harder for consumers to tell themapart. This may weaken the unique image that a brand tries to build.
Despite these concerns, this trend is unlikely todisappear soon. It reflects people's desire for simple and enjoyableexperiences in modern life. The key issue, therefore, is how such designs canbe used in a more creative way, rather than simply copied.
28.Whatdoes the first paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The popularity of cartoon-like images indifferent places.
B. The variety of products that now usecartoon-like designs.
C. The growing use of human features in productbranding.
D. The bright colors and simple forms that makeproducts noticeable.
29.Whatkind of designs do consumers tend to prefer?
A. Those helping to ease their pressure.
B. Those stressing seriousproduct qualities.
C. Those bearing complicated human features.
D. Those keeping with traditional formalstyles.
30.Whatdoes the underlined word "inheritance" in paragraph 3 probablymean?
A. Origin.B. Copy.C. Tradition.D.Influence.
31.Whatcan be inferred from Paragraph 4?
A. Digital tools encourage unique design ideas.
B. Ready-made templates improve design efficiency.
C. Consumers actively support creative brandimages.
D. Similar designs may weaken a brand's uniqueidentity.
D
Archaeologists working in Egypt's Nile Delta mayhave discovered a structure dating backaround 2,600 years while testing a new technology designed to locate structuresburied deep beneath the surface. The team was studying the Buto site, the ruinsof an ancient city that was occupied from the Predynastic period to the EarlyIslamic era.
During its long history, Buto was built, destroyed, and rebuilt, and consequently has several layers, each potentially a richsource of archaeological remains. However, the oldest parts of the city are nowburied beneath later ruins and thick mud deposits. This would make traditionaldigging difficult, time-consuming, and expensive, as archaeologists have tomove large tons of debris or struggle withgroundwater to reach lower levels.
The researchers were trialing an integratedapproach that uses satellite radar and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT).The team started with Sentinel-1 radar satellites to identify large-scaleanomalies (异常事物) from space. When it detected something ofinterest, they followed up with ERT, which sends electrical currents between aseries of electrodes placed in the ground to create a three-dimensional modelof subsurface structures based on how different materials conduct or resistelectricity. This technique has been likenedto an underground "CT scan"
The scans showed that while the upper layerscontained remains from later historical periods, a large, well-definedstructure sat at a depth of between two and six meters, dating back about 2,600years. At this stage, the researchers thought it could be a large tomb ortemple. Guided by these results, they carried out a small excavation (挖掘), which uncovered mudbrick walls andreligious artifacts where the sensors had predicted.
The results of this study demonstrate theeffectiveness of combining geophysical measurements and remote sensing data, which can accurately detect buried structures in a complex region. Theresearchers now plan to expand these surveys with larger equipment to reacheven deeper, older levels and they believe their integrated approach can beused to map other archaeological sites before anyone has to pick up a shovel.
32.Whatis the primary purpose of the technology used in the study?
A. To uncover ancient artifacts without disturbingthe site.
B. To assist archaeologists in identifying where toexcavate.
C. To examine the historical layers of the Butosite in detail.
D. To replace traditional excavation with advancedimaging tools.
33.Whyis traditional excavation at Buto considered challenging?
A. The site contains remains from multiplehistorical periods.
B. The mudbrick structures are too fragile tosurvive excavation.
C. The equipment required is not available forlarge-scale digging.
D. The deeper layers are hidden beneath laterdeposits and groundwater.
34.Whatrole does electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) in the research?
A. It generates a 3D image of undergroundstructures.
B. It detects large-scale anomalies from satelliteimages.
C. It removes obstacles that block access to deeperlayers.
D. It determines whether a site contains valuableartifacts.
35.Whatcan be inferred about the integrated approach used by the researchers?
A. It will completely replace traditionalexcavation.
B. It enables more efficient archaeologicalexploration.
C. It is mainly useful for studying surface-levelremains.
D. It combines satellite radar with ground-basedmethods.

Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Even withregular cleaning, moisture stays around. Among work, family, and social life, cleaning every wall hard daily is almost impossible.36
Recently, a friend noticed yellow stuff fallingdown her bathroom tile. Naturally, I panicked and wanted answers fast.37Its tiny particles floatthrough the air and settle in damp spots. Once there, moldspreads rapidly.
38Certaintypes can cause allergic reactions, breathing issues, and long-lasting health problems if left unchecked.Bathrooms, with their limited ventilation, are prime breeding grounds. Mold grows well in warm, damp conditions. After ashower, steam turns to water on walls and ceilings. Even with good airflow, moisture doesn't go away. Mold often starts in corners or near pipe joints, then spreads quickly if ignored.
The key to prevention is controlling moisture. Letfresh air into your bathroom by opening a window or running an exhaust fanduring and after showers. Dry surfaces regularly, especially those likely toget water drops. If mold already appears, act fast. 39For hard-to-remove mold or chemicalsensitivities, vinegar and a hydrogen-peroxidecleaning liquid are safer choices. Always wear gloves and a mask to protectyour skin and lungs.
Keeping your bathroom clean and dry is the bestdefense. Let fresh air in regularly, clean frequently, and consider a machinethat reduces dampness in damp areas 40By taking these simple steps, you can keepmoisture and mold well under control. Always keep in mind that maintaining aclean environment ensures a healthy home for everyone.
A. Mold (霉菌) isn't just ugly — it's dangerous.
B. Mold grows wherever moisture meets organicmatter.
C. Wipe surfaces sometimes, especially areas easyto get wet.
D. And that's exactly when mold takes theopportunity to grow.
E. If the problem gets out of hand, callingprofessionals is wise.
F. For surfaces that don't absorb water, a bleachand water mix works well.
G. Proper ventilation (通风) can prevent the basement from becoming too moist and moldy.

DearEditor,
I’m writing to share my thoughts about the TVprograms played during lunchtime in the canteen.
In my view, music programs is the better option.First, music relieves mental pressure effectively. After a morning of intenseclasses, our brains are tired from heavy thinking. Soft melodies help us relaxand calm down, while upbeat music lifts ourspirits, making the lunch break a perfect time for mental relaxation. Second, music improves the dining experience. It creates a warm, comfortable atmospherethat helps us enjoy our meals and chat with classmates peacefully. Unlike newsor noisy programs, music stays in the background and never disturbs our eating.A varied playlist can cater to students’ preferences, preparing us well for theafternoon classes.
Thank you for your time and thoughtfulconsideration.
YYours,
LLi Hua
At that critical moment Anna stepped in. Approaching the quarreling boys with a calmsmile, she suggested they flip a coin to settle their dispute. Simple as that, the argument ended. Everyone was stunned. Then, she began distributing treats likea caring big sister, instantly soothing therestless children. Making use of leftover candy boxes, she foldedintricate paper animals—elephants, lions, and birds—and presented them to eachchild on the bus. The children’s eyes sparkled with joy as they admired theirunique gifts, their cries replaced by laughter. The man who had asked abouttheir dreams earlier watched in astonishment, clappingappreciatively. As for Sumi, a new emotion warmed her chest: pride.
Sumi excitedly called Anna a hero, but she shookher head gently. She grinned and replied softly, “Mom, I’m not a hero. When a hero walksdown the road, everyone claps, but I want to be the one clapping for others.”That simple answer shifted something deep within Sumi. She realized she hadalways pushed Anna to achieve, shine, and be number one, yet she had missed thepoint. Being kind, happy, and true to oneself was the real achievement. Perhapsbeing “Number 23” wasn’t terrible after all, it was exactly where Anna wasmeant to shine. A tear of joy rolled downSumi’s cheek as she wrapped her arm around her daughter’s shoulder. “Then bethat teacher, my Anna. I shall be your loudest admirer.”

选项设计注重在具体语境中辨析近义词(如spied/captured, collapsed/yielded,emergency/conference, joke/lie),以及动词短语的运用(looked back on)。
考点覆盖全面,包括非谓语动词(to protect)、形容词(accidental)、名词性从句(What)、分词(cutting)、连词(and)、冠词(an)、所有格(China’s)、动词时态语态(was attacked)、定语从句(where)、介词(despite)。
提供的开头句“Anna stepped in”和“Sami called Anna a hero”给出了明确的续写方向。
好牧人教堂("Church of the Good Shepherd"),是自然景观中的人文地标。
由第四段第二句 "Constructed in 1935... was built using local stone to complementthe surrounding landscape."
由第一段第三句 "20-year-old student... collapsed directly onto the tracks from aheart attack."
由第三段第二、三句 "...he attempted to lift Hollopeter back onto the platform, butquickly realized that there was not enough time."
第一段首句是主题句:"...a new trend has become common in branding:everyday products... are given human features..."
由第二段第二、三句 "In a fast-paced... stressful world, people are naturally drawn tothings that are simple and enjoyable. Compared to more serious... designs, these playful images can make people feel relaxed."
This may weaken the unique image that abrand tries to build.",这与D项"相似的设计可能削弱品牌的独特性"意思一致。
通读全文,特别是第一段"while testing a new technology designed tolocate structures buried deep beneath the surface"和最后一段"can accurately detect buried structures... can be used to map otherarchaeological sites before anyone has to pick up a shovel."
由第二段最后一句 "This would make traditional digging difficult, time-consuming, andexpensive, as archaeologists have to move large tons of debris or struggle withgroundwater to reach lower levels."
由第三段第三句 "...ERT, which... to create a three-dimensional model of subsurfacestructures..."
D:And that's exactly when mold takes the opportunityto grow.(而这正是霉菌乘虚而入的时候。)
A:Mold isn't just ugly — it's dangerous.(霉菌不仅难看——还很危险。) not just... but... 观点-例证:选项A提出了“dangerous”的观点,后文全部内容(Certain types can cause...)
F:For surfaces that don't absorb water, a bleach andwater mix works well.(对于不吸水的表面,漂白剂和水的混合液很有效。)
E:If the problem gets out of hand, callingprofessionals is wise.(如果问题失控,请专业人士是明智的。) (Proper ventilation can prevent the basement...)

54. A.looked back on意为"回顾,回忆"。 watch out for(当心),live up to(不辜负),make up for(补偿)均不符。

60. and并列连词,连接"Gunshots ring out"和"the patroller collapses"两个并列的句子。

Chinese historical dramas have become increasinglypopular in recent years. Fans around the world love them for their beauty andrich storytelling. However, many argue that these “C-dramas” contain so manyincorrect details. Instead, they sell people a dream of a China that never was.
C-dramas are not educational documentaries.Screenwriters often add dramatic elements, invent characters, and changecertain events to make the story more exciting or meaningful for audiences. However, I’d argue that C-dramas have something valuable to offer in terms ofhistory education. By drawing us into the lives of people from history, theycreate an emotional connection to the past that no textbook could ever match.
Further research is necessary to get a properhistorical and cultural education. But C-dramas have become a starting pointthat leads people down this worthy path. Inspired by their favorite TV shows, more young people are now exploring traditional Chinese history and culturethan ever before, and that’s a real cause for celebration.
