Dr. Pascal Richard is a creative structural geology and fractured reservoir expert with 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, working both on Exploration and Production scales with a strong focus on the Middle East. He holds a PhD from the University of Rennes, France (1989), and has spent 30 years with Shell, including postings at Shell Research Holland, Shell International, and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Since 2021, he has been working as an independent consultant through PRgeology, and serves as a Visiting Professor at Natal University, Brazil. He is recognized as a highly competent technical expert with extensive experience in structural geology interpretation, kinematics, fault seal, fault geometries, seismic fault interpretation, and fractured reservoir characterization and modelling. He led Shell's Sandbox lab in the 1990s and developed numerous fundamental concepts of modern structural geology. He has published numerous technical papers in international journals, is a regular guest speaker at international conferences (EGU, EAGE, AAPG), and is passionate about education and training through web, classroom, and outcrop-based teaching.
