Life in Nanjing
I'm considering moving to Nanjing next summer (currently living in Wuhan) and wanted to hear from those who live there/have visited the city extensively. How's life in Nanjing? Is it a lively city, or is it on the quieter side? Overall do you enjoy it?

I've been here for about 10 years now, and I honestly love the city. It's got a good mix of Western food and nightlife in 1912 (kinda like a food/bar area) for those who like that sort of thing. However for the main draw is a lot of natural beauty and Ancient Chinese history like the 600-year old city wall and the Ming Tomb. It's definitely what I would consider a quieter city, especially compared to Shanghai, but I honestly prefer that, especially with the cost of living being MUCH lower. It depends what you're looking for, but I love it here.

Depends where you live. There's a small expat community in Xianlin because of NIS and BASIS. There's also BSN. There's quite a few MNCs and quite a few 'Professional Expats' that are at the Manager or Senior Level. As for the place... I mean, it's a Chinese city. It's a solid T2 - it is no Shanghai. But, it's got a Costco and Sam's Club and Ikea and malls. Xianlin also has a bunch of colleges, so that area feels like a college town during the school year. So, if you like to go out and party - there's a lot of that too. But, Xianlin is also quite a bit far from the city center. I basically never go there.

Nanjing is a livable city with four distinct seasons. There is a lake inside the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum where many people swim in the summer, and I live in Canal River where there are many parks next to it, which is perfect for exercising and walking, and the air is also good, better than the city center, but of course, there are fewer foreigners here in Canal River, and foreigners are usually in Baikalake and Xianlin, and if you want to socialize more, you can choose to do it there.
