试音材料
M: Excuse me, can you tell me how much the shirt is?
W: Yes, it's nine fifteen.
Text 1
M: We'd better hurry, Jasmine. It's 4:30 p.m. now.
W: Come on. Our train leaves at 7:30 p.m. It usually takes us an hour to get to the train station.
M: What a relief! I thought it would leave at 6:30 p.m. Well, in that case, we can set off in an hour.
W: OK.
Text 2
W: What are you up to tonight, Andrew?
M: Nothing really. I was going to play tennis with Jerry, but he told me he had to attend a meeting. What's up?
W: Would you like to go to the movies tonight? M:Sure.
Text 3
M: I'm really nervous. Aren't you curious about the result of the match?
W: Well, it's okay if I don't get a place. I've done my best, anyhow.
M: I'm the opposite of you. I'm on pins and needles.
Text 4
W: I have to say the TV show is really dull. Shall we go for a walk in the park?
M: Hold on a minute, Let me finish doing these dishes first.
W: Sure, no rush. We can take our coats and enjoy the peace once you're done.
Text 5
W: Is the little girl in the short video speaking Cantonese?
M: Yeah, she's reciting the Cantonese version of an ancient poem.
W: She's so cute! Share the video with me.
M: OK. It got 10,000 likes on TikTok. I've watched it five times on end.
Text 6
M: Judy, the blouse looks wonderful on you! The color goes with your trousers perfectly.
W: Thanks, Mark.
M: Well, the blouse certainly shows your good taste, It must have cost a lot.
W: Actually, no. I got it on sale at Star Mall. It was originally $150,but I got it for only $60.
M: That's a fantastic deal! How did you manage to find such a great deal?
W: Oh, I always pay attention to their newsletters. They announce promotions ahead of time.
M: Wise move! Ishould start doing that, too.
Text 7
W: Bob, I heard you've been travelling a lot. What's the longest flight you've been on?
M: My longest flight was from Istanbul to Bangkok. I had a stopover in Delhi. It took me about 16 hours in total. It was challenging to sit for so long, but I made it enjoyable with
movies, healthy food, and some sleep.
W: Sounds exhausting! Do you have any tips for long flights?
M: Definitely! First, choose your airline carefully. For flights over 4 hours, make sure they offer comfortable seats, good meals and in-flight entertainment, like a TV screen. Also, ask for a blanket right after boarding to stay cozy.
W: Good advice! Anything else?
M: I think that taking two short flights, like two 5-hour ones, is better than one 10-hour flight. Breaking up the journey makes it easier to stretch and relax in between.

Tonight, I'm going to introduce the art of Thai fruit carving. When it comes to Thai fruits, they’re quite often transformed into a piece of art. I really hope tonight's talk will open the door to a new culture for you. Thailand is known for its rich culture and traditions, and one of the most fascinating aspects of Thai culture is the art of fruit carving. This ancient art form dates back to the14th century, and it has been passed down from generation to generation. Fruit carving is practiced in both Thailand and Japan, but the earliest known fruitcarving was found in China. Fruits were carved both for decorative purposes and for the food to look more appealing before it was eaten. Thai fruit carving is not only a beautiful art form, but it is also a way to celebrate the beauty and abundance of nature. Now, if you just pick up the cucumber in front of you and one of the medium-sized knives, I'll show you how to turn that boring cucumber into a beautiful leaf.

Library Stamp Collection Program
This semester, the school library is launching a fun and meaningful Stamp Collection Program! Instead of points, you’ll collect beautifully designed reading stamps — each one celebrates a book you’ve read and returned on time. Complete a set, and you’ll earn special rewards!
How It Works:
Borrow a book and return it on time: get 1 reading stamp.
Each stamp features a famous quote, a classic character, or a literary symbol.
Stamps are digital (in the library app) or physical (stickers in your “Stamp Passport” available at the front desk).

Special Bonus Stamps:
Golden Stamp: Finish any book from the “20 Classic Reads” list
Inkwell Stamp: Write a short review (50 — 100 words) in the app
E-Reader Stamp: Borrow and finish an e-book
Rules to Remember:
Only one special stamp per book, even if it qualifies for multiple bonuses (you choose which special stamp to add).
Stamps expire (过期) at the end of the school year.
Late returns = no stamp for that book.
An example to follow:
Tom borrowed The Little Prince (a classic), read it, returned it on time, and wrote a review.
He got 1 regular stamp + chose a Golden Stamp (for classic) or an Inkwell Stamp (for review) = 2 stamps total.

A few weeks ago, I called an Uber to take me to the Boston airport for a flight home for the holidays. As I slid into the back seat of the car, the warm intonations (语调) of the driver’s accent washed over me in a familiar way.
I learned that he was a recent West African immigrant with a few young children, working hard to provide for his family. I could relate: I am the daughter of two Ethiopian immigrants who made their share of sacrifices to ensure my success. I told him I was on a college break and headed home to visit my parents. That’s how he found out I go to Harvard. An approving eye glinted at me in the rearview window (后视镜), and quickly, we crossed the boundaries of rider and driver. I became his daughter, all grown up — the product of his sacrifice.
And then came the fateful question: “What do you study?” I answered “history and literature” and the pride in his voice faded, as I knew it might. I didn’t even get to add “and African-American studies” before he cut in, his voice thick with disappointment, “All that work to get into Harvard, and you study history?”
Here I was, his daughter, squanderingthe biggest opportunity of her life. He went on to deliver the age-old lecture that all immigrant kids know. We are to become doctors (or lawyers, if our parents are being generous) — to make money and send money back home. The unspoken demand, made across generations which my Uber driver laid out plainly, is simple: Fulfill your role in the narrative of upward mobility so your children can do the same.
I used to feel anxious and backed into a corner by the questioning, but now as a junior in college, I’m grateful for their support more than anything. This holiday season, I’ve promised myself I won’t huff and get annoyed at their inquiries. I won’t defensively respond with “but I plan to go to law school” when I get unrequested advice. I’ll just smile and nod, and enjoy the warmth of the occasion.
24.What disappointed the driver?
A.The sacrifice of the author’s parents.
B.The author’s choice of major at college.
C.The author’s casual attitude towards study.

A study has found that verbal abuse or hurtful words in childhood may be as damaging to long-term mental well-being as physical abuse, if not more so. This groundbreaking research highlights the need to treat verbal abuse as a serious public health issue that comes with lasting psychological consequences.
Research led by Liverpool John Moores University has drawn on the data of 20,687 adults from England and Wales. In the survey, participants were asked about their exposure to physical and/or verbal abuse before the age of 18. Then current mental health markers were assessed using a mental well-being scale, which factors in optimism, relaxation, social connection and coping skills. The survey asked participants how often they felt optimistic about the future, useful and relaxed.
What the researchers found was that those who experienced verbal abuse as children were 1.64 times more likely to report poor mental well-being as adults. Meanwhile, individuals exposed to physical abuse were 1.52 times more likely to have mental health problems later in life, and those who experienced both verbal and physical maltreatment were 2.15 times more likely to have negative mental health outcomes.
There’s a growing body of evidence that demonstrates how verbal abuse in childhood has long- term impacts. It’s often viewed as less harmful than other forms of maltreatment. The researchers found that while physical abuse had decreased — from around 20.2% of children born in the 1970s to 10% of those born in 2000 or later — verbal abuse has increased. This study found that those who experienced this in their youth had nearly double the likelihood of social isolation.
There remains an urgent need for greater measures to prevent physical abuse. Verbal abuse may not immediately manifest in ways that catch the attention of bystanders, clinicians, or others in supporting services. The researchers emphasize that this study doesn’t downplay the long- term harm of physical abuse, but it highlights the need to better consider verbal maltreatment when it comes to both child protection policies and mental health treatment in adults who have experienced this trauma.
28.What did the survey in paragraph 2 focus on?
A.Adult abuse experiences.
B.Social connection in childhood.
C.Current physical health markers.
D.Childhood abuse and adult mental health.
29.How does the author present the issue in paragraph 3?
A.By presenting comparative research data.B.By introducing the study’s background.
C.By explaining research methodology.D.By proposing policy solutions.
30.What change in abuse patterns did researchers note?
A.Physical abuse increased since 2000.
B.Verbal abuse decreased significantly.
C.Verbal abuse rose while physical abuse declined.
D.Both types dropped among newer generations.
31.What is the best title for the text?
A.Physical abuse prevention strategies
B.Verbal abuse’s lasting adult impact
C.Survey methods in psychology research
D.Improving childhood mental health policies

A wheeled robot rolls across the floor. A soft-bodied robotic star bends its five legs, moving awkwardly. Powered by conventional electricity via plug or battery, these simple robotic creations would be unremarkable, but what sets these two robots apart is that they are controlled by a living entity (实体): a king oyster mushroom.
By growing the mushroom’s mycelium (菌丝体) into the robot’s hardware, a team led by Cornell University researchers has engineered two types of robots that sense and respond to the environment by using electrical signals made by the mushroom and its sensitivity to light.
The robots are the latest accomplishment of scientists in a field known as biohybrid robotics who seek to combine biological, living materials such as plant and animal cells or insects with artificial components to make partly living and partly engineered entities.
There’s still a long way to go before biohybrid robots go beyond the lab, but researchers hope one day robot jellyfish may explore oceans, sperm-powered robots may be able to deliver fertility (生育) treatments and cyborg cockroaches could search for survivors in the wake of an earthquake.
“Biohybridization is an attempt to find components in the biological world that we can use, understand, and control to help our artificial systems work better,” said Shepherd, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Cornell University.
The team began by growing king oyster mushrooms in the lab from a simple kit ordered online. The researchers chose this species of mushroom because it grows easily and quickly. They cultivated the mushroom’s mycelium, which can form networks that, according to the study, can sense, communicate and transport nutrients.
The team found it challenging to engineer a system that could detect and use the small electrical signals from the mycelia to command the robot. “You have to make sure that your electrode (电极) touches in the right position because the mycelia are very thin,” said lead author Anand Mishra. “Then you culture them, and when the mycelia start growing, they wrap around the electrode.”
32.What is special about the two robots in the first paragraph?
A.They can control living creatures.
B.They can make various movements.
C.They are powered by king oyster mushrooms.
D.They are partly mushroom and partly machine.
33.What does the author want to show by giving the examples in paragraph 4?
A.The future possibilities of biohybrid robots.
B.The seriousness of the environmental issues.
C.The limitations of biohybrid robots beyond the lab.
D.The advantages of biohybrid robots over conventional ones.
34.What did the team find difficult when engineering the robots?
A.Wrapping the electrode with the mycelia.
B.Arranging the electrode in the right order.
C.Developing a system to cultivate the mycelia.
D.Placing the electrode accurately on the mycelia.
35.Why do researchers develop biohybrid robots?
A.To replace artificial systems entirely.
B.To create fully self-replicating organisms.
C.To reduce environmental impacts of robots.
D.To integrate biological advantages into machines.

Experiencing bad dreams every night can be horrifying for anybody. Bad dreams can disturb the sleep and make a person feel stressed throughout the next day. 36
Before knowing how to get rid of bad dreams, we need to understand what can result in them. Researches have shown that when a person is under some sort of physical or mental stress, he is more likely to get bad dreams and disturbed sleep. 37For instance, if you’re overworked, learn to take things slow. Don’t be ambitious to the point that it starts affecting your health.
Besides, some trauma (损伤) that a person might have experienced recently or in the past which they’re unable to get over can make the person suffer from bad dreams. Death of a very close family member is often seen to be the reason behind recurrent nightmares.38
Eating fatty and high-protein foods in dinner is also known to cause bad dreams in some people. 39Taking a light dinner of soups and salad is the best, both for the health and for stopping disturbed sleep in some cases.
Besides these, there are many other things a person can do to have a good night’s sleep. For example, your bedroom should be the most comfortable place in the world. It’s advisable to get rid of all electronic gadgets including television. 40So, from now on try to be a happy and positive person.
A.Almost everyone has this experience.
B.Take proper exercises and this might help you.
C.Bad dreams occurring because of these reasons can be stopped if the diet is changed.
D.That’s why one should take steps to stop them as soon as they become an everyday occurrence.
E.In such a case, taking therapy and dealing with the trauma is the only solution to stop bad dreams.
F.In addition, if you have negative thoughts, it can have side effects on the kind of dreams you have.
G.So, to stop bad dreams, it’s necessary to find out the causes of physical and mental stress in your life.

Research has shown that a preference for sweet foods is associated 56a kinder, more agreeable personality. The association can be seen in the language 57(use) to describe people who are nice or whom we love in some culture, such as “sweet”, “sweetie”, or “honey”.
These links can 58(explain) based on the conceptual metaphor theory and the center of 59is that metaphors compare abstract concepts to more concrete fields to help understanding. In the theory, metaphoric mappings are cognitive association, often learned through experience or a process of embodiment (具象化), 60eventually allows people to think about or represent abstract concepts in terms that are more readily perceptible(可感知的), such as taste.
A new journal article published this week, 61which I am a co-author, aimed to examine whether the association between sweet taste preferences and agreeableness occurs across cultures. 62(address) this question, the study surveyed 1,650 participants of different cultural backgrounds.
The study found that agreeableness was 63(significant) and positively connected with the two different measures of sweet taste preferences in all samples. Compared with ones without a sweet tooth, people who like sweet foods are 64(likely) to “sympathize with others’ feelings”, “take time out for others”, “have a soft heart”, and so on. Therefore, the study’s results suggest that people across cultures use sweet taste experiences to understand and conceptualize a person’s inner 65(warm) in line with theory framework.

Of all the people I encounter in my school, our security guard Uncle Wang, stands out with his unwavering smile that has brightened countless mornings for students like me.
One afternoon, I ran into him near the dormitory, while I was struggling with a heavy suitcase at the school gate. Although he was off duty, he approached me with his familiar smile without hesitation and carried it all the way to my dormitory. He performed it with such genuine joy and thoughtfulness, which lifted my entire day.
True greatness lives in warm-hearted dedication to others — even in the most ordinary jobs.

In the middle of February, a cold wind filled the air, telling stories of the power of winter. Young Bridger Peabody, with his messy hair and big curious eyes, was being cared for by his great-grandmother, Sharon Lewis. Her house, full of warmth, old photos. and quiet memories, became their safe place while Bridger’s family was at the hospital with his sister.
Sharon, a strong and clever person, had always been like a bright light in Bridger’s life. But one evening, as the stars began to shine in the dark sky, a sudden slip outside her door changed everything. The ground was slippery, and she fell hard. her head hitting the cold and hard step. Pain shot through her, and she found herself lying still on the frozen ground, unable to move. “Bridger,” she called out, her voice shaking but still strong. “I need your help.”
The little boy, who had been quietly playing in the living room, ran to her side. His heart pounded fast when he saw his great-grandmother on the ground. He felt scared and unsure. Bridger had only recently recovered from a long illness, and running too much still made him dizzy. And ever since he was little, he’d been terrified of the dark.
“Can you get my phone from the car, honey?” Sharon asked gently, trusting him completely. Bridger nodded, even though his small hands were trembling. He took a deep breath and whispered to himself, “Don’t be scared. Don’t be scared.” Like a song, the words helped him stay brave.
The video from the backyard camera later showed his courage — a tiny shape moving through the cold, dark night, his voice just a small sound in the stillness.
Each step he took was a brave fight against his fear, but Bridger didn’t stop. He reached the car, his fingers searching quickly for the phone. His face lit up when he found it. Holding it tightly, he ran back toward the house. “I got it!” he shouted, his voice full of pride, hope and love.

读后续写
Sharon, now holding the phone, called for an ambulance. Her voice remained steady, despite the pain running through her body. She provided the person on the other end with their address and a brief description of what had happened. Meanwhile, she kept her gentle eyes on her great-grandson, who was sitting beside her, offering a small, comforting hand. The wait seemed endless in the dark of the night. Finally, the sound of the ambulance filled the air, growing louder as it neared the house.
As the helpers from the ambulance carefully attended to Sharon, Bridger’s family rushed home. They found him sitting beside her, looking both proud and scared. His parents, still in shock, hugged him tightly, amazed by his bravery. Later that evening, after Sharon was taken to the hospital, Bridger’s family sat together and quietly reflected on what had happened. In the days that followed, Sharon recovered with the love and support of her family. Whenever Bridger looked at his great-grandmother, he felt a special sense of pride, knowing he had been there when she needed him most.
